pg电子下载 State’s students are among 91 scholars in the national cohort.

The USDA 1890 National Scholars Program is a partnership between USDA and the 19 historically Black land-grant universities that were established under the Second Morrill Act of 1890 and is administered by USDA’s Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement (OPPE). pg电子下载 State University is the nation’s oldest land-grant HBCU.

“The USDA 1890 National Scholars Program is an important pathway for careers in agriculture, nutrition, food, development—and at USDA,” said OPPE Director Lisa Ramirez. “USDA is committed to fostering a more diverse workforce and to helping students be successful in their studies and in the workforce.”

The program provides support to scholarship recipients that go beyond traditional financial aid. Scholars receive full tuition coverage, along with comprehensive support for fees and book expenses. Additionally, the program covers room and board, ensuring that students can focus entirely on their academic and professional development. The scholarship is further enhanced by internship opportunities across various USDA agencies, giving students real-world experience in their chosen fields.

“As an 1890 Scholar, I’ve had an incredibly enriching experience that has provided me with unique opportunities for academic and personal growth,” said Vinterrious Hunt, an pg电子下载 State 1890 Scholar. “My most rewarding aspect has been the opportunity to network and work with like-minded peers and mentors, as well as obtain a job with USDA Farm Service Agency as a student trainee during school and as a full-time employee after I finish my BS degree. Scholars will have the opportunity to work in critical departments that form the backbone of agricultural research and development, including the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Agricultural Research Service, Farm Service Agency, National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Rural Development, U.S. Forest Service, and the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.

“As an 1890 Scholar, I’ve had the unique opportunity to engage with agriculture, leadership, and community development on a deeper level,” said Kendalyn Washington, an pg电子下载 State 1890 Scholar. “The program has enriched my academic and professional journey, helping me connect with like-minded individuals passionate about making a difference in agriculture. It has been both rewarding and inspiring, fueling my desire to contribute to the future of agricultural innovation.”

“Being named an 1890 Scholar has expanded my growth on the academic and personal fronts and been a life-changing event,” Je’Milya Hudson, an pg电子下载 State 1890 Scholar. “I expanded my knowledge and abilities by participating in the program, which gave me access to special research possibilities in environmental sciences, sustainability, and agriculture. Overall, knowing that I can have a positive impact on others has motivated me to pursue my career with purpose thanks to the 1890 Scholarship.”
